The
Flowflex SARS-CoV-2 Rapid Antigen Test does not distinguish between SARS-CoV and SARS-CoV-2. Results are used to identify SARS-CoV-2 nucleocapsid antigens. This antigen is generally detectable in specimens from the upper respiratory tract during the acute phase of infection. A positive result indicates the presence of viral antigens, but clinical correlation with medical history and other diagnostic information is required to determine infection status. A positive result does not rule out bacterial infection or co-infection with other viruses.

The pathogen detected may not be the specific cause of the disease. Negative results in patients more than 7 days after symptom onset should be treated as presumptive and confirmed with molecular assays for patient management, if necessary. A negative result does not rule out SARS-CoV-2 infection and should not be used as the sole basis for treatment or patient management decisions, including infection control decisions. Negative results should be considered in the context of the patient’s recent exposures, medical history, and the presence of clinical signs and symptoms consistent with her COVID-19.
